Akhnoor, 7th January: To address shortage of blood in Akhnoor region, a Blood Storage Unit was inaugurated at Shub Tilak Multi Specialty Hospital Akhnoor on Sunday. Established with the tutelage and expertise of Jammu Blood Center, Kunjwani the storage unit was inaugurated by Shub Rani Malhotra (Founder of Hospital) and SDPO Mohan Sharma in presence of prominent citizens of Akhnoor. A blood camp was also organized in the hospital on this occasion in which around 40 donors including Rakesh Malhotra MD & CEO Shub Tilak Multi Specialty Hospital, Dr Kulbir Medical Director of Hospital donated their blood voluntarily. .
“Patients have to face many problems for blood in rural areas. One has to travel hundreds of kms for a unit of blood. Even blood donors are not able to reach the blood Centre. In view of this problem, the Shub Tilak Blood Storage Unit will go a long way in solving the blood shortage issue of city and nearby areas,” said Dr Kulbir (Medical Director Shub Tilak Multi Specialty Hospital). He said that the facility would enable the hospital to be better prepared to handle emergencies during and after surgeries and to serve the accident patients and other malignant diseases.
SDPO Mohan Sharma congratulated Rakesh Malhotra CEO and Managing Director of Hospital and Dr Kulbir medical director of Shub Tilak Multi Specialty Hospital for setting up the first blood storage unit in the region.
Rakesh Malhotra CEO and Managing Director of the Hospital said that Akhnoor is a border and a far flung area where there is a no blood bank or a blood storage unit. One had to travel to Jammu for a unit of blood. Even blood donors were not able to reach the hospital to donate blood. In view of this problem, first Blood Storage Unit is inaugurated today with storage capacity of around 50 Blood Units,” said Rakesh Malhotra. With dedicated medical personnel and technicians, the new facility is a welcome addition to the Hospital and will be of great benefit to the community. He said hospital has added world level latest machinery in its storage unit. He further encouraged youth to donate blood to save lives. He said that there is no industry where blood can we manufactured only we have to donate and save precious lives. He said one single donation can save up to three lives.
